All day dining for adults, children & dogs in the heart of Primrose Hill, Greenberry Cafe.

Greenberry Cafe is a small, lively restaurant in the heart of Primrose Hill dedicated to cooking delicious food in a friendly casual environment where you may drop in for a coffee, a glass of wine, a quick bite or a more substantial meal. The rustic interior boasts a stunning skylight, long American oak bar, with the al fresco tables being a perfect sun spot.

Buzzy and vibrant for weekend brunch, great for morning coffee and romantic and twinkly in the evening, this is easily our most-visited restaurant in London. Try the baked pancakes, they are incredible. Great wine list!

When Greenberry Café opened in late 2012, we praised the adventurous cooking and welcoming atmosphere. Returning most recently in 2015, the kitchen radiance has dimmed and the global reach been curtailed. Greenberry’s simple breakfast menu is served until 3pm; at noon it segues into a traiteur list (salads or simple plates such as Stoke Newington smoked salmon with soda bread).

A more substantial menu is also served at lunch and dinner; lamb rump with risotto from the specials board was a decent enough dish. But on this visit we found the service perunctory at best, frosty at worst. It took a concerted effort to get our waitress to crack a smile, and simple questions about the menu were answered with an ‘I don’t know’.

During the day, Greenberry may be a little too family-friendly for some; in the evening, everyone from dog-walkers (and their pooches) to groups of friends pile in to the unfussily decorated room. It’s a great haunt for locals, but unless the service manages to thaw out a little, it’s not worth a detour.

The Greenberry Café menu covers all meals of the day, using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Brunch is hugely popular here, and includes treats like fluffy pancakes with ricotta, mixed berries and maples syrup, to gourmet full English breakfasts, eggs any way, and sourdough or gluten-free toast with a range of toppings. International delicacies feature throughout, like sweet potato, feta and mint fritters with coriander yoghurt, or soba noodles with shiitake and wakame and a soy and sake broth. There are also succulent steaks, fresh salads, and popular daily specials.

Inventive desserts at Greenberry Café in Primrose Hill include temptations like salted Valrhona chocolate tart with pistachio crème fraîche, while the wine list has been carefully crafted to include champagnes, English sparking wines, and various organic and biodynamic varieties.

A haven of fresh, healthy dining, Greenberry Café in London is 5 minutes’ walk from Chalk Farm Tube Station.
